Claire F Jessup

Dr Jessup is Head of the Islet Biology Laboratory in the Centre for Neuroscience at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. She completed her PhD in transplantation immunology in 2005 and undertook post-doctoral training in T cell immunology as an NHMRC CJ Martin Fellow at the University of Oxford (UK). In 2008, Dr Jessup returned to Australia to work in islet transplantation with Prof Toby Coates at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as part of the Australian Islet Transplant Consortium. She was recruited to Flinders University in 2012 as a Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellow where she has been recently appointed as a lecturer in Anatomy. Dr Jessup’s research examines intracellular communication within pancreatic islets – in particular between beta cells and vascular endothelial cells – and the relevance of this cross-talk for islet transplantation.
