Mark D Gorrell
Mark D Gorrell, BSc, PhD, is Professor of Liver Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, and Head, Liver Enzymes in Metabolism and Inflammation Program, Centenary Institute. I trained at Australian National University, University of Melbourne and Johns Hopkins University. My training encompassed parasitology, virology, immunity, serology, cell biology and protein biochemistry. My core interest is liver disease pathogenesis, particularly liver fibrosis, cancer and fatty liver, small RNA viruses, protein structure, proteases, mouse models of liver disease and cancer, transcriptomics and proteomics. I am expert in the DPP4 enzyme family including FAP-alpha, DPP8 and DPP9. I discovered DPP8 and 9 and pioneered research on the expression and function of FAP.I have authored 170 publications attracting H index 50, i10 index 114 and over 8,300 citations. I have supervised more than 19 PhD and M Phil students and 23 honours students.
