The HbA1c has traditionally been used as an indicator of glycaemic control. The development of an international HbA1c reference program has led to changes to the method of reporting HbA1c results. In addition the HbA1c is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of diabetes. How are these changes being adopted in Australia? What might it mean in our practice?
