Paul A Fournier

Professor Paul Fournier is an exercise biochemist and physiologist with a strong research interest in carbohydrate metabolism in health and diabetes. In particular, he has supervised several clinical research projects aimed at developing strategies to reduce the risk of exercise-mediated hypoglycaemia in type 1 diabetes mellitus. For instance, Professor Fournier and colleagues have explored the use of sprinting, continuous glucose monitoring systems, exercise timing, and carbohydrate intake as means to prevent hypoglycaemia in type 1 diabetes mellitus. In addition, his research has focused on elucidating the glucoregulatory mechanisms underlying the risk of exercise-mediated hypoglycaemia in diabetic individuals. This research has been supported by funding bodies such as the International Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the National Health and Medical Research Council. As a result, Professor Fournier and collaborators have published extensively in high quality journals, supervised several postgraduate students, and have contributed to improving glucose management guidelines for hypoglycaemia prevention in type 1 diabetes.
