Tony J Verberne

Associate Professor Tony Verberne is a Principal Research Fellow in the University of Melbourne’s Department of Medicine at Austin Health. He completed a PhD in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Melbourne 1982 where he studied the neuropharmacological effects of cannabinoids. In 1989 he was awarded an NHF Overseas Fellowship to work in the Department of Pharmacology at University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and later in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia in the USA. In 2005, he was awarded a Doctor of Science by the University of Melbourne. He has served on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Physiology, the British Journal of Pharmacology and Brain Research Bulletin and currently is an Associate Editor for Autonomic Neurosciences- Basic & Clinical. In 2011 he and Prof. Ida Llewellyn-Smith, edited Central Regulation of Autonomic Functions 2nd ed. His current research focuses on central cardiovascular control mechanisms, the CNS response to hypoglycaemia and autonomic control of the pancreas.
